Hamilton ON – Now entering its 20th year in operation, the Great Lakes Golf Tour (GLT) is pleased to announce that it has become a member group within Golf Canada & Golf Ontario. They will be the first professional golf tour to have its individual members join Golf Canada’s member community. Recently, Golf Canada introduced new benefits and a very impressive upgrade to its Mobile App that will further assist a golfer’s ability to track improvement, while also providing a rich set of tools to engage with the game of golf across the country. It is very important moving forward that we create unity and fill in all the gaps that exist in developing competitive players from Canada while continuing to grow the game at all levels. ‘’This is something we’ve thought about for a long time and with the recent changes and upgrades to the Golf Canada membership program, it made this an easy decision to include this in our membership options moving forward.’’ States GLT President Jim Kenesky. ‘’Our full members will now have all Golf Canada member benefits including travel discounts, incident protection coverage and full access to the Golf Canada Mobile App. We’re also happy to know that this strengthens our relationship with Golf Canada, and we are excited to support the many programs where a large number of our past and present players began their competitive journey in golf.’’
“We are very excited to work with the Great Lakes Tour and to deepen our bond in our shared mission to grow participation and excellence for all golfers across the country” says Ryan Logan, Golf Canada’s Director of Membership. “The Great Lakes Tour has been an incredible platform for players on the competitive pathway for a number of years, and to now have all GLT members in the Golf Canada membership program really speaks to our desire to create more awareness around our new benefits, but also to have all Canadian golfers being affiliated with Golf Canada and the provincial golf associations”. Golf Canada is the National Sports Federation and governing body of golf in Canada with the vision of being a world leader in golf. Golf Canada in partnership with the provincial golf associations, currently represents 272,000+ golfers across the country and over 1,400+ facilities. The association is also a proud member of the Canadian Olympic Committee and will be looking forward to sending athletes to the Summer Games in Tokyo this upcoming Summer. Each member of the Great Lakes Tour, whether a professional or amateur, will have the following benefits in 2021 and beyond.
Golf Canada and the GLT are continuing discussions and the door is wide open for future growth of this relationship. ‘’It is very important moving forward that we create unity and fill in all the gaps that exist in developing competitive players from Canada while continuing to grow the game at all levels. It is a great peace of mind to know that our dollars raised from our membership will go to support junior golf and grow the game initiatives in Ontario and Canada for many years to come.’’ Concludes Kenesky.
