Michael Gligic polished off his year on the GLT in style and heads into PGA Tour q-school with at tone of confidence. Gligic will have his name engraved on the Moe Norman Cup for a second time and adds another GLT Tour Championship title to his playing resume. Rounds of 71-66 for a total of 137 bested the field by 1 stroke. The leaderboards were busy throughout the day with many players making a run for the top slot. Mitchell, McCann and Lafontaine were the main contenders. Gligic caught a break on Hole #18 when his second ball bounced back into the fairway from a tree in the environmentally sensitive area. Knowing where he stood with two players still to finish who were at -6, Gligic made a clutch putt from 20 feet for birdie and move to -7. Gligic and his caddy Ryan waited with anticipation as the leaders finished. McCann and Mitchell were within reach, but missed their birdie putts to tie and force the playoff.
With The Moe Norman Cup almost here, we thought we would share some quotes from Moe...... "You gotta think high to rise"-Moe
GLT's Michael Gligic earned medalist honours this past week at the Canadian Tour Q School hosted at Hidden Lake. GLT's Ryan Corbin also earned an exempt card finishing T2. GLT's Calvin Kupeyan finished T13 for a conditional card.
Lee French of London, Ontario took home his first GLT victory at the final Regular Series event at Hidden Lake in style. It was the largest playoff in GLT history - 6 players tied at -2 (69) on a chilly fall day. Contenders were Dennis Hendershott, Reggie Millage, Lee French, Andrew Zanatta, Jason Wellings and Joe Rinker. Although, Rinker had to default the playoff, it was a stacked 5-some. Multiple winner, Hendershott just came off a win at the last one day event. Jason Wellings won earlier this year and is playing well this fall and Millage is always a strong competitor. Andrew Zanatta was the wild card, an Amateur, this was his first GLT event. The playoff was sudden death. It took three holes and came down to French and Millage. Millage missed his 10 foot putt and left the door open for French to tap in and claim victory. French has been close in the past, but he claimed it felt really good to finally break the barrier into the Winner's circle.
Alan McLean took home another win on the GLT this season, but this time a Platinum Series 36 hole Championship. A two round total of -7 was good enough to best the field. Close behind was All time money winner, Brian McCann followed by past Champion Shawn Lafontain and multiple GLT champion Michael Gligic. The course played tougher then normal, as the conditions caused by Tropical Storm Lee made for difficult shot making. There are only two more GLT series event this season, Hidden Lake next week on the Old Course and the final Platinum event of the Season at Mandarin Golf Club near Markham. All focus is on the Moe Norman Cup now!
