![]() London ON - The Great Lakes Tour will be making a visit to the community of London, Ontario this week. May 19 & 20 will mark the playing of the London Championship hosted by Tarandowah Golfer's Club located Southeast of London in the small town of Avon. Local professional Alan McLean will headline the field of 45 competitors. McLean is a resident of London and calls Forest City National his Home Golf Course. In the past, McLean was a member of the European Tour, Sunshine Tour in South Africa and the MacKenzie Tour where he's a past winner. McLean played many seasons on the Great Lakes Tour and sits inside the Top 5 in all time earnings... "We are extremely excited to visit the community of London and the ever challenging yet beautiful Tarandowah Golfer's Club." Great Lakes Tour President Jim Kenesky says. "This area loves their golf and to have such a great field is a treat for London. Having Alan McLean compete is something special as we know his playing time has been limited recently. He's a great addition and will compliment the other fine players nicely."
Also committed to play in the London Championship is Current Great Lakes Tour Order of Merit leader and MacKenzie Tour Member Michael Gligic of Kitchener ON. Gligic has begun the Great Lakes Tour season with a 3rd place showing at the GLT Shootout, a runner up finish at GolfNorth Series #1 at Grey Silo GC and a win at the Barrie Classic last week. Other notable players include Richard Jung from Toronto ON who fired 62 in a RBC Canadian Open Regional Qualifier last year to earn a spot in the National Open, Tour Rookie Turner Southey-Gordon also from Toronto who finished solo second last week at the Barrie Classic, 2015 Great Lakes Tour Champion Brian Churchill-Smith from Oakville ON, and local PGA of Canada Professional from Thames Valley Golf Club and 2012, 2013 PGA of Ontario Champion Brian Hadley. Tarandowah Golfer's Club will host the Championship and the par 70 true links style layout will test all the players in the field. The only thing missing from the facility is the Ocean. Tarandowah can expect to play fast and firm and imagination will definitely be needed around every green setting. PGA of Canada Head Professional Dave Schweyer is in the field and will be teeing it up at 9:27am on Thursday. The London Championship is a Major on the Great Lakes Tour schedule with 600 points available to the winner. The leader on the Order of Merit as of June 23, 2016 will receive an exemption into the RBC Canadian Open Final Qualifying on July 18 at Heron Point Golf Links in Alberton ON.
