Hamilton ON - The Great Lakes Tour (GLT) is pleased to announce current PGA TOUR Professional Michael Gligic of Burlington ON as the first Lifetime Member in Tour history Michael Gligic joined the GLT in 2006 as an amateur and would eventually turn professional in 2008 at the age of 18. In the 19 year history of the GLT, Gligic has held membership for 12 of those seasons before graduating to the Korn Ferry Tour in 2019. After a strong campaign in 2019, which included a win at the Panama Championship, he gained membership to the PGA TOUR in 2019-2020 via the Korn Ferry Tour Top 25... GLT Directors made a decision to create a life membership category in recognition to the players that have displayed loyalty, perseverance and outstanding playing ability while advancing through the ranks of professional golf to the PGA TOUR.
''Being named the first GLT lifetime member is such an honor.'' States Michael Gligic. ''I have made many lifelong friends, had many unforgettable moments and the GLT provided the competition I needed to propel my game to the next level and it played an important part in reaching the PGA TOUR. I am truly thankful for this honor.'' The GLT has been in operation since 2001 and has seen over 60 players participate in a GLT event that have had PGA TOUR experience or qualified for a PGA TOUR or PGA TOUR Champions event in their career. Canadians David Hearn, Rod Spittle and Brad Fritsch all utilized the GLT for a short time prior to their successes at the PGA TOUR or PGA TOUR Champions level. David Morland IV, with over 150 PGA TOUR starts and a 2 time Korn Ferry Tour winner, recently joined the GLT to keep his game sharp and get ready for the senior ranks of golf around the world. (At the time of this release, Morland IV finished T2 at Staysure European Senior Tour Qualifying School and will be fully exempt in 2020 on that circuit.) ''We have been fortunate enough to watch Michael's progression through the years. From a 16 year old amateur in 2006, to turning professional in 2008, to winning multiple times and leading our Order of Merit in 2011, to winning on the Mackenzie Tour in 2012, to winning on the Korn Ferry Tour in 2019 and then gaining membership on the PGA TOUR.'' In our opinion, Michael's story is one that will continue to motivate golfers and continue to grow the game of golf in our country.'' ''Michael has set the standard of what our lifetime membership should be. What separates Michael from the other distinguished players that have utilized our Tour is the length of time he continued to support the GLT and the grass roots level of professional golf in Canada.'' says Kenesky. ''There were many pathways available to him around the World to progress through the ranks. He has won at all levels on his way to the PGA TOUR and we remain grateful that Michael chose the GLT and has proven that no one should give up on their dreams.'' Michael's final year of membership on the GLT was 2018 with his last victory on the circuit coming at the 2016 Barrie Classic at Tangle Creek G&CC. Early in his PGA TOUR career, his best finish has come at The American Express in January where he put up a 72 hole total of 15 under par to finish in a tie for 21st. Through 9 events in 2019-2020, Gligic sits 159th in the FedEx Cup standings and has accumulated $129,982 in earnings. The GLT will celebrate 20 years in 2021 and the final schedule for the 2020 season will be announced in the coming weeks and is expected to see another exciting season available for Canadian and International professionals from across North America.
