![]() Barrie ON - The Great Lakes Tour will be visiting Barrie ON this Thursday and Friday May 12-13 for the Barrie Classic Hosted by Tangle Creek Golf Club. This is the first of four 36 hole Championships on the current schedule and the field is shaping up to be one of the strongest in recent years. The field will feature one of Canada's top professionals as the #2 ranked PGA of Canada player Dave Levesque will be coming to Barrie. Levesque was the 2014 PGA Championship of Canada Champion, 2015 Hawkesbury Invitational Champion, 2015 Promutuel Insurance Quebec Open Champion and the 2015 PGA of Quebec Player of the Year. Levesque enters the field as one of the hottest players in the country over the past 12 months just behind the remarkable year by another Great Lakes Tour member Danny King... "It's a great pleasure and honour to have Mr. Levesque enter this event." said Great Lakes Tour President Jim Kenesky. "We are excited to have a relationship with the Circuit Canada Pro Tour and to see Dave and other PGA of Quebec members commit to our events is very promising. The community of Barrie is in for a treat with the presence of not only Dave but the entire field of top touring and club professionals from across the country."
The Barrie Classic will get underway on Thursday May 12 at 7:30 am. Other major names competing in the event are MacKenzie Tour winner Michael Gligic, Former Big Break contestant David Markle, European Senior Tour Member Ken Tarling and 2015 PGA of Canada Assistants' Champion Brad Kerfoot. Also committing to the Barrie Classic are local favourites Colton Kalkanis, Eric Hawerchuk, Terry O'Brien, Drew Nesbitt and Ryan Curran with the host club represented by MacKenzie Cuthbert, Cory Hooper and Ian Doig. The Barrie Classic is a major event on the Great Lakes Tour schedule and offers an increase in Order of Merit points with first place receiving 600 points. The leader of the Order of Merit as of June 23, 2016 will receive an exemption into the RBC Canadian Open Final Qualifying on July 18th at Heron Point Golf Links.
