Waterdown ON - The 2017 Southern Ontario Open week has become an event to watch this coming July. The 2017 Champion of the Southern Ontario Open July 12-15 will receive an exemption into the Mackenzie Tour - PGA TOUR Canada's Mackenzie Investments Open presented by Jaguar Laval July 20-23. The Mackenzie Investments Open will be contested at Les Quatres Domaines Golf Club in Mirabel (QC) and is an inaugural event in 2017 that will feature a $175,000 purse. Along with a Three Spot Ontario Qualifier on Monday July 10 and the Champion of the Southern Ontario Open, the Great Lakes Tour Order of Merit leader at the conclusion of the Southern Ontario Open on July 15th will also receive an exemption into the field the following week in Quebec... The Southern Ontario Open remains as one of Ontario's only Open golf championships and this will be the sixth playing of the event at Hidden Lake Golf Club (NEW) in Burlington (ON). Past champions of the tournament include PGA Tour Latino America Member Derek Gillespie (2013) and 2017 PGA Tour Member Domenic Bozzelli (2014). In 2016 Raoul Menard of Ange-Gardien (QC) defeated Jake Scott of Strongsville (OH) by one shot after firing a final round 63.
The Great Lakes Tour Order of Merit has gained in strength as the members performing well this season are set to take advantage of some major incentives. The Order of Merit announced a presenting sponsor as Roll ReadyTM will pay a cash bonus to the top 4 at season's end. Not only will the leader on the Order of Merit as of June 21 receive an exemption into the RBC Canadian Open Monday Qualifier, but as of July 15 the leading individual will also receive an exemption into the Mackenzie Investments Open presented by Jaguar Laval. The Great Lakes Tour Order of Merit presented by Roll ReadyTM will also be a determining list for members to gain access into exclusive Pro Am events throughout the season. "In our vision to offer Elite Canadian professionals and amateurs more opportunities to compete and develop their skills, this announcement couldn't be more welcome." Great Lakes Tour President Jim Kenesky stated about the exemptions. "We had such a great Southern Ontario Open last year, and with these exemptions and the 3 spot qualifier on Monday, it will help put this Championship back to where it should be as one of Ontario's major golf tournaments."
