GLT heads back to Mystic next week for Regular Series Event...

Hendershott picks up 4th vicotory
written by Kara - Jul 1, 2008

GLT President, Dennis Hendershott was victorious today at the Glen Eagle Canada Day Event in a playoff over Danny King, two-time CPC Champion and multiple GLT winner.  The pair both carded 5 under par rounds of 67, King posted early being in the 3rd group of the day and Hendershott was in the later half of the draw.  There were a few contenders in the field, Josh Dean posted an early round of 4 under par after a stellar front nine of 3 under.  Dean currently sits 2nd on the order of merit and is the front runner for Rookie of the Year.  Conor O'Shae of Pippers Heath also card a 4 under, 68 to finish tied for 3rd.

Hendershott and King started their playoff on the 1st hole on the Blue nine, Par 4.  Both players made routine pars and moved on to the 2nd hole, par 5.  King hit a bomb off the tee, which came to a rest on the downslope of the fairway making a difficult second shot in from roughly 210 yards.  Hendershott hit a shorter tee ball which finished on a level lie where he was able to capitalize hitting a hybrid 3 iorn from 244 yards on the green.  Hendershott two-putted for the birdie and the win over King.

Hendershott was emotional about his win, having just come off missing the cut at the Mystic Platinum tournament last week where he carded his highest round ever as a professional.  He stated he has been making some positive changes, it's just that there has been a large gap between his good swings and misses.

The Tour heads back to Mystic next week for a regular series event.

Mystic Drama - An Exciting Finish
written by Kara - Jun 25, 2008
It was a very exciting 3rd and final round today at the Mystic Platinum Event.  The field saw more shifting and movement on the leaderboard throughout the day.  Leaders fell back and players came from behind.  Cieseilski was lurking his way up the board and had it 2 under par with 2 holes to play, but made an error off the tee on 17, hitting his tee ball in the hazard which lead to a bogie and falling out of contention.  A new course record was shot by Terry O'Brien (68, -4), which ultimately placed him at the top of the board with a 3-day total of -2.  Young gun, Dustin Wetherup also posted an impressive 3 under, 69 to finish at -2 total.  Brian McCann, started the day with a 1 shot lead and was favoured to win.  McCann started his day in total control and not making a bogie until the 15th hole.  Sitting on 15, McCann had a 2 shot lead over the field.  McCann was not able to bounce back and unfortunately made back-to-back bogies on 17 and 18 took him out of chance to playoff for the win.

Wetherup and O'Brien warmed up and headed out to the Par 4, 18th Hole to a sudden death playoff.  O'Brien and Wetherup both hit driver off the tee.  After their second shot in, both players found the back greenside bunker.  O'Brien was unable to make his 10 foot par putt which left the door open for Wetherup who drained his 8 foot uphill putt for the win.  This was Wetherup's first Professional victory.

Wetherup turned Pro last Spring on the Great Lakes Tour.  He spent his winter between Florida and North Carolina playing on Southern Developmental Tours.  His summer plans include playing in the GLT Platinum events and will try to qualify for some Nationwide Tour events and Canadian Tour events when they hit Ontario.

written by Kara - Jun 22, 2008

Aaron Logan of Brantford wins his first GLT Amateur Title today at Mystic GC in Ancaster.  Mystic is considered likely the most difficult Amateur Tour stop site to date.  Logan is one of the younger players (20 yrs) on the Amateur Tour, he plays out of the Brantford Golf and C.C.  He is now the 3rd player from Brantford to win on the GLT Amateur Series this year, joining Corey Waring and Mike Hachigian in the winner's circle.

Logan was low in the clubhouse for the better part of the day.  He carded a 2 over par, 74 from the Gold Tees.  In the second last group Andrew Gallo of Thornhill and a newcomer to the Tour tied the low gross spot in the Championship flight.  Logan and Gallo headed to the first hole in a sudden death playoff.  Logan played smart and made an easy par to take home the hardware.  He was awarded with his first GLT trophy as well as a $450 Gift Card.

Mark Tremblett won the A Flight and Ali Tahir was the low gross in the B Flight.  The next tour stop is in July at the Carlisle GC.

written by Kara - Jun 4, 2008
In his Professional Debut, Victor Ciesielski wins at Victoria Park in a threeman playoff.  The name may ring a bell, Ciesielski qaulified and competed as an Amateur in the 2006 Bell Canadian Open at the age of 19.    Ciesielski is no stranger to playoffs, in 2006 he won at the Copetown Woods GLT Amateur Series Event and was runner up at the Glen Eagle event.  Today, Ciesielski shot -3, 68 and was low in the clubhouse for most of the day.  Ian Doig and Dan Payton also came in later posting -3's which forced the playoff.  The trio went to Hole #1, a Par 5, dog-leg right.  Cieseilski pured his tee shot and second shot and made eagle with a 10 foot putt to win over Doig and Payton.   Victoria Park East is know for players going low, but the cool winds blew from the north-east today which made for difficult scoring conditions.  more...
