Season Recap

September 7th, 2010 by Robbie

Well my first season on the Canadian Tour has come to an end. I obviously did not play as well as I would have liked but I got my card back through Q School last week which was a huge relief. I played well all week, including the Platinum event on Monday and Tuesday.

The Ontario events were a bit of a dissapointment. I was looking forward to the event at Greystone because I like the golf course and thought I could do well there because it is tougher than most of the other places we play. However, I missed the cut and had another weekend off.

The next week we were at Seaforth. I played very well but had a cold putter all week. Around there you need to make 6 or 7 birdies a round to keep pace and I could not get anything going. I was pleased to play 4 rounds because it has been a while since I had made a cut and that gave me some confidence going into the Tour Championship.

The Tour Championship was a great event. We were treated very well and I was looking forward to playing some good golf. Unfortunately, I missed the cut by a few and it was a bit of the same story as the week before in Seafoth.

Overall this year was a very good learning experience. I learned some things about my game that I know I will need to improve in the off season. My putting is the main area that I am going to focus my practice. There were events that it could have saved me from missing a cut and others where it could have got me into contention. Next year I will know some of the courses better which will help in my preparation before the events. This year I felt very rushed at some events trying to prepare because I could not get on the golf course due to Pro Am’s.

This fall I am going to try PGA Tour Q School for the first time. I am excited and feel like this will be a great experience going forward. As I mentioned before I am relieved to have my Canadian Tour card back because no matter what I will have a place to play next year.

Thanks for reading and I will write more after my First Stage of Q school. Take care.

Players Cup

July 14th, 2010 by Robbie

So it’s the last event of our 3 week stretch. We are in Winnipeg for the Players Cup which is the first major on the schedule with a $300,000 purse. The golf course is a Donald Ross design, which means the greens are very tricky. But, if you can control your golf ball there are some birdies out there because you will have a lot of wedges into these par 4’s.

I have struggled the last 2 weeks and will go into this week with a different mind set. The last two events I was too worried about my golf swing rather than just hitting shots. I worked hard the last few days getting ready and I am excited to get started tomorrow.

After this event I will be back at The Club at Bond Head for the Canadian Open Monday Qualifier. Obviously I am very excited at the chance to play in the Canadian Open and am glad I played the GLT event before I left.

Until next time, take care.

Edmonton

July 3rd, 2010 by Robbie

Sorry for the late post but it has been a busy week. I flew in late Tuesday night after playing the event at Bond Head. Played 18 holes and got some practice in Wednesday, in between some interesting weather.

Thursday I teed off at 2:00 and played in heavy wind all day. It was very gusty and tough to judge which direction it was going. I was fairly pleased with a one over par 72 and was hoping to see some favourable conditions Friday morning. However, it was more of the same to begin the second round. I played pretty well all day except for two holes where I made a triple and a double. In the end I shot 74 and missed the cut by three.

This weekend Ill practice for a bit both days and check out the West Edmonton Mall. I don’t fly out till Monday to Saskatoon so I will have lots of time to kill. I am excited for next week, I feel very close to playing some good golf and have heard very good things about the golf course as well.

Chaeck back early next week for another blog.

Take care.

TCO Recap

June 8th, 2010 by Robbie

I just got back last night from Victoria. It was a long week with a lot of different weather. I finished tied for 37th shooting 70 70 68 72 (E) and was overall pleased with my performance. There were a few shots I wish I could have back in the 3rd and 4th round but that’s the way it goes sometimes. The first two rounds I struggled a bit but managed to make the cut by a few shots.

After a good round on Saturday, I was paired with Roger Sloan who is a good friend of mine. He played a brilliant round on Sunday shooting 61 and ended up finishing tied for 4th. Watching him was a lot of fun, he holed out twice from 90 yards and was never in any danger of making a bogey all day.

I have some time off before we go back on the road for 3 weeks and I will be working hard getting ready. I am very excited for these events, the purses are very good and it will be my first time visiting Edmonton and Winnipeg.  To prepare I will play at Otter Creek and Ceder Brae on the Great Lakes Tour, which are both great courses.

Until my next blog take care.

Times Colonist Open

June 3rd, 2010 by Robbie

Well it’s Thursday morning here in Victoria and I am just getting ready to head to the course for my first round. Today look’s like it is going to be a great day for golf after 3 days of damp weather. It feel’s good to be back on the road after about a month off. Played a few practice rounds and was lucky enough to get out for nine holes at the Gorge Vale Golf Club near by. I have not had time to see many sights yet but I am sure I will by the end of the week.

Even though the weather been wet and cool I have enjoyed the week thus far. I love the golf course and it is in great shape. It’s not long, but very tight and hitting fairway’s will be key to shooting good scores. Also, all of the volunteer’s and staff at the tournament have done a wonderful job.

Until next time, take care.
